In 1978, he founded Pelikan Design which designs literally hundreds of products. Pelikan is best known for the design of contract furniture for offices, lobbies, rest areas, etc. and counts some of the most prestigious furniture manufacturers in Europe among its clientele – Fritz Hansen, Bent Krogh, Cappellini, Frederica, Eric Jorgensen and Mateo Grassi.

For Gammelgaard, “design is a response to changing living conditions and new materials”, and his aim is to “make ordinary life a little bit more comfortable, a little bit more enjoyable, and a little bit more clever with our design”.

After completing his product development studies at the Antwerp Institute of Architecture and Design, Robin Delaere set off for California to hone his design knowledge and skills.

Today, he has designed a whole series of products and furniture for internationally renowned companies, and has carried off many prestigious design awards (such as the Vitra Design Award for the ingenious children's foam furniture for Foamz, and the Best of Category Award in the Annual Design Review produced by I.D. Magazine in New York).

For Robin, "Design is all about atmosphere, about feeling good or bad, depressed or happy. Good design will never let you down, it will help you get the job done and will cheer you up when you're depressed. We need to be aware of the fact that people are very much influenced by the products they are surrounded with. This means that products play a major role on how you feel or how you perceive the world around you and how you interact with it."
